Goldilocks: A Cautionary Tale

One day, there was a little girl named Goldilocks. She went for a walk around the Montrose neighborhood. Pretty soon, she came upon a library. She walked right in, where the friendly staff welcomed her to browse the collection.

Upstairs, in the adult nonfiction, there were lots of shelves for her to look through. She was very eager to read a book. She browsed the first shelf to find a title that might be of interest to her.

"This shelf is too crammed," she exclaimed.

So she walked over to the next shelf.

"This shelf is practically empty," she said.

Goldilocks decided to enlist the help of the staff at the library to come up with a solution to her problem, which was undoubtedly also the problem of everyone else who visited the library.

The staff quickly moved into action. They began by shifting books, filling in the bare shelves in the 800's, and clearing space to expand books from the shelves that were crowded from the 600's and 700's. The shifting, along with careful weeding of books, made it apparent that there would be sufficient room for a neater presentation of the collection.

Goldilocks was very tired by this time, so she left the library. When she visited the library again the next day, she was thrilled to see the new shelves.

"Ahhh, this library is just right," she said happily and she grabbed a handful of books to check out.
